Weekend Overnight Camps

A Magical Weekend of Fun and Healing!

Welcome to our weekend overnight camp – the heart of what we do at Comfort Zone Camp!

Our camps create a special place where kids ages 7-17 (18 if still in high school) who have lost a parent, sibling, or significant person can meet others who truly understand. It’s like finding your second family!

Camp for Kids

Our weekend overnight camps offer kids ages 7-17 (18 if still in high school) a safe and fun environment at a rustic camp facility. Camps run from Friday to Sunday throughout the year.

In three days, campers:

  • Make new friends with other kids who “get it”
  • Have TONS of fun with trust-building games and activities
  • Learn coping skills to handle big feelings
  • Share stories and memories in a safe, supportive place
  • Connect with caring adults who are there just for them

Big and Little Buddies

Every camper aka Little Buddy gets matched one-on-one with their very own Big Buddy! They’re there to hang out with your child throughout the weekend, listen when they need to talk, and help them have fun and try new things.

All volunteers are vetted through a 4-hour volunteer training and criminal background check before being matched in our camp program.

Fun fact: one-third of our Big Buddy volunteers were once campers themselves! They know exactly what your child is going through because they’ve been there too.

Healing Circles

Each day at camp, little buddies join a small group of kids their age for something we call “Healing Circles.” Facilitated by mental health professionals, these groups are a place for kids to:

  • Share their feelings (only if they want to!)
  • Learn they’re not alone
  • Discover ways to honor and remember their loved ones
  • Build a toolbox of coping skills to take home with them
  • Connect with peers that have gone through similar experiences

By the end of the weekend, they’ll leave the “bubble” with a community, sense of connection, and coping skills to help navigate your grief journey.

What our campers have to say:

  • Before I went to Comfort Zone Camp, I felt like no one knew what I went through. I was afraid to share my loss. But when I went to Comfort Zone Camp, I was free to talk about my feelings and about my Dad, and I knew I wasn’t alone.

  • Because of CZC, I have learned to “dance in the rain” – discovering moments of joy even while grieving. I know now that every emotion is valid – and that it’s okay to cry, to remember, to grieve, and yes, even to laugh and find happiness again.

Camp For Young Adults

Our young adult program is for individuals ages 18-25 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or significant person. It’s a safe space where you can be yourself, share your story, and discover you’re not alone. Our trained Healing Circle leaders are there to guide conversations and activities. You’ll also get to meet other young adults who understand what you’re going through.

What You Can Expect

  • Real conversations.

We’ll talk about the tough stuff – how grief shows up differently as you hit life’s big moments like graduations, job interviews, relationships, or just figuring out who you are as an adult. No pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.

  • New friends who just get it
  • Fun indoor and outdoor activities

What our campers have to say:

  • Everything about Comfort Zone Camp sounded too good to be true, but it turns out it was better than I could have imagined.

  • When I’m at CZC, there’s no place I’d rather be. I think of this place as a model for what all of life should be like: having a blast with other people, finding so much joy with each other, and also bonding together against the dark parts of life. CZC is a true connection.

Parent Camp

Being a grieving parent or guardian is HARD work. That’s why we created a special space just for you to focus on YOUR own healing (you deserve it!). At Parent Camp, you’ll also spend the weekend at the camp facility, in a parallel program that’s completely separate from your child’s.

What You Can Expect

  • Real conversations.

Throughout the weekend, you get to connect with other parents/guardians going through a similar journey, spend time in your own Healing Circles, and learn coping skills to support your child’s grief journey.

  • Campers and parents/guardians are separated for the weekend.

On Sunday, parents/guardians come together with their children for a camp-wide memorial service. Many parents tell us this shared moment becomes one of their most treasured memories!

What our campers have to say:

  • Parent Camp was definitely an eye-opener on how many people relate to your innermost struggles when you think you are so alone. This was so helpful! I can’t even find the right words, but what can I say… LIFE-CHANGING!

  • Each time I walk into camp, I know I am safe in the bubble, I am with people who understand and relate to my thoughts and emotions, and most of all, I am going to make connections with other parents.
