Weekend Overnight Camps

This is the heart of what we do! Kids ages 7-17 (18 if still in high school) who’ve lost a parent or sibling meet others who truly understand. Whether the loss was by illness, accident, overdose or suicide, it’s a place where they find their people.

What to Expect at Camp

Big & Little Buddies

Big & Little Buddies

Every camper gets matched one-on-one with a Big Buddy volunteer. They hang out all weekend and help them have fun and try new things.

Healing Circles

Healing Circles

Kids share feelings in small groups (if they want to), honor their loved one, and build coping skills with others who get it.

Fun Activities

Fun Activities

Think archery, crafts, challenge courses, and bonfires — camp is where kids get to be kids again.

Forever Friends

Forever Friends

Campers “turbo-bond” all weekend, leaving with friendships they can lean on long after camp ends.

What our campers have to say:

  • Before I went to Comfort Zone Camp, I felt like no one knew what I went through. I was afraid to share my loss. But when I went to Comfort Zone Camp, I was free to talk about my feelings and about my Dad, and I knew I wasn’t alone.

    Milo, 9
  • Because of CZC, I have learned to “dance in the rain” – discovering moments of joy even while grieving. I know now that every emotion is valid – and that it’s okay to cry, to remember, to grieve, and yes, even to laugh and find happiness again.

    Isabella Murphy, 13
  • Comfort Zone continues to remind me to smile on the tough days, because I know I’m not alone now.

    Rudi Brown, 16

Camper FAQs

How much does this cost?

All of our programs are FREE OF CHARGE.

Does my child have to stay the entire weekend?

Yes, to get the full benefit of our program, all campers are required to stay the entire weekend.

Do you provide transportation?

We encourage families to transport themselves to camp. If transportation is an issue, you can talk to the Youth & Family Coordinator.

Can my child come to camp more than once a year? Can they come back next year if they like it?

Campers are allowed to attend in-person camps once a year (with some exceptions). Campers may attend virtual programs in addition to any in-person programs within the same year. We encourage campers to return each year as we know grief is a journey.

How are the volunteers/Big Buddies trained, and are they background checked?

Yes, all volunteers must pass a criminal background check and complete our in-depth volunteer training.

Is it a sleep over or day camp?

Our camps are overnight, and campers sleep at camp.

How does the Parent/Guardian Program work?

The parent/guardian program is a separate and optional program. It mimics the camper program with healing circles, free time, bonfire, and more. It’s also an opportunity to meet your peers, other people with similar experiences who ‘get it.’

How does the Young Adult Program work?

The young adult program is a separate program. It mimics the camper program with healing circles, free time, bonfire, and more. It’s also an opportunity to meet your peers, other people with similar experiences who ‘get it.’

How do I refer a camper or family to CZC?

You can fill out our referral form here.
